The overall objective of the EU-funded Programme “EU for Municipalities” is providing support to the municipalities in North Macedonia on “Improving Local Government Services through Innovative Concepts”. The Programme aims to contribute towards local economic and social development of municipalities of the Republic of North Macedonia by introducing innovation in their policy development, planning, governance and service delivery capacity.

Specific objectives:

• To increase the capacity of the municipalities and citizens to benefit from IPA and other relevant funds and programs through trainings, informative events and other initiatives;
• To assist a number of Macedonian municipalities – selected through a call for proposals – in piloting innovative solutions to address community challenges, in partnership with local authorities (LA) from EU Member States;
• To strengthen the administrative and technical capacities of the municipalities to foster innovation in municipal governance and service provision through capacity building and technical assistance;
• To improve communications at municipal level on EU assistance and the EU integration process by increasing synergies with multipliers and other interested parties, in particular the EU Europe Houses in Skopje, Strumica and Kriva Palanka and EU Info Points Offices.

The EU provides 85% co-financing for these projects with total eligible costs budgeted each in between EUR 425k and EUR 909k. Additional 15% co-financing support is obligation of the contracted municipalities or other national/international contribution that they provide.
